MC477853: Microsoft Syntex Pay-as-you-go Preview

Microsoft is offering a limited-time free preview of pay-as-you-go billing functionality that will be used in the future for some Microsoft Syntex services. The preview allows you to track Microsoft Syntex unstructured document processing events at no cost to assess usage and estimate costs for a future pay-as-you-go license.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 101512

With this limited-time preview, you will be able to use Unstructured Document Processing and see where pages are processed across your tenant.

When this will happen

We will begin rolling out to Targeted release in early December and expect to complete roll-out by mid-December.

How this will affect your organization

When you enter your Azure subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center, you will join the preview of the pay-as-you-go functionality for unstructured and prebuilt document processing (formerly document understanding). This preview does not include structured document processing which uses AI Builder credits.

Processing events will be sent to the Azure meter in your account so that you will be able to view the pages processed for unstructured and prebuilt document processing models. For the duration of the preview, you will not be charged anything. The billing meter will function only to show you pages processed in your organization.

Any user in your organization will be able to apply an unstructured document processing or prebuilt document processing model to a SharePoint library.

If you currently have Microsoft Syntex seat licenses, licensed users will be able to continue to use unstructured and prebuilt document processing per the terms of that offer. You can still participate in the free pay-as-you-go preview if you want to see the usage of Microsoft Syntex in your organization or if you want to help forecast future Syntex costs with the pay-as-you-go model.

The preview will expire in early 2023, at which time, if you would like to continue with pay-as-you-go, you must purchase the new Microsoft Syntex offering that will be announced at that time.

After the preview, if you already have Microsoft Syntex per-seat licenses, we will not charge you on a pay-as-you-go basis for the services included with that license. However, new services such as translation, summarization, image tagging, and others will only be available on a pay-as-you-go basis.

What you need to do to prepare

This preview requires that you have:

  • An Azure subscription
  • An Azure resource group
  • An Azure storage container

The Azure subscription and resource group are required to set up pay-as-you-go billing. The storage container is required to view your usage in the Azure portal.
