MC424909: Public Preview for driver updates for the Windows Update for Business

Previously, we announced that the public preview for the Windows Update for Business deployment service would be available in Microsoft Graph and in Microsoft Endpoint Manager in the first half of 2022. We received your feedback and we want to clarify the definition of public preview in the platform versus in Microsoft Intune.

MC424909: Public Preview for driver updates for the Windows Update for Business

Public preview for the platform means that the Graph API for drivers and firmware management are accessible publicly in the beta endpoint. A Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3/E5 license is required to independently access and use the API. Further, Update Compliance reporting for recommended drivers and approved drivers is available. We will also share the code used for the web application as documentation for the Graph API and examples on how to call and use the API when you build your own applications for drivers and firmware management.

Public preview for Intune means that the portal makes available driver servicing management, including in-portal reporting. Intune is using the same APIs, but the UI/UX in Intune is significantly more capable and user friendly to give its application maturity.

When will this happen

The plan is to launch a public preview of Graph API for drivers and firmware management in the final quarter of 2022 and Intune in the first quarter of 2023. Refer to the Deployment service for driver updates public preview coming soon blog for updated information.
