  • Ending Sept. 30, 2022.

MC422140: Planned Maintenance: Microsoft Teams

Note: If you do not have users in China who will use Teams you can safely disregard this message.

How this will affect you organization

As part of this planned maintenance, the following feature areas may be affected:

Users in China who join Teams meetings hosted in data centers outside of the Asia Pacific region will not be able to leverage the “China premium links” network capability while we are doing ongoing maintenance and improvements to the network. China premium links enable higher-quality access for Teams and other services for users based in China, using the public internet. See Microsoft 365 global tenant performance optimization for China users for more information.

During this maintenance window, any users in China who join a Teams meeting hosted in another data center (e.g. North America) will use the regular cross-border network services, which will likely result in poorer quality for audio, video, and screen sharing.

What you need to do to prepare

During this planned maintenance window, the following workarounds can be used:

Users in China can avoid this situation by ensuring that meetings are hosted in Asia Pacific regional data centers, e.g. by having someone in China be the first person to join the meeting. IT admins can verify the meeting’s data center location after the meeting has ended using the Call Analytics feature (look up the location of the IP listed under “Connectivity_RemoteMR”) or using the Call Quality Diagnostics tool (see “Host Region” under “Meeting Health Details”). Contact Microsoft Support for any questions about determining meeting location. This maintenance is planned outside of normal business hours, to help minimize any impact to your organization.

For organizations with users around the globe, we recognize that “outside of normal business hours” might affect you differently. We apologize for the impact this may have on your users. We are working hard to improve Microsoft Teams, to minimize these maintenance windows.
