Currently available in public preview (MC387639), we’re introducing the ability to maintain label and protection for PDF files created from Microsoft Office apps. This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 88516.
Labels and protection applied on Office documents will be persisted to the output file when converting to PDF in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on PC.
When this will happen
Rollout will begin in late August and is expected to be complete by end of September.
How this will affect your organization
Labels and protection applied on Office documents will be persisted to the output file when converting to PDF in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on PCs using File|SaveAs, File|Export, and File|Share Office add-ins.
What you need to do to prepare
To enable users to label PDFs created in Office, admins can create sensitivity labels and define policies and settings in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal.
