MC339113: Microsoft 365 Information Governance – Announcing General Availability of retention policies for Yammer messages

We are excited to announce that that ability to apply retention policies for Yammer user chats and Yammer communities is now Generally Available. Previously, retention policies for Yammer were not available.

This update enables organizations to apply retention policies on Yammer messages.

When this will happen

This will be Generally Available as of March 31, 2022.

How this will affect your organization

If you are using Yammer Enterprise within your organization and wish to set retention or deletion policies, you will be able to target Yammer communities and users with new or existing retention policies.

What you need to do to prepare

  • To leverage retention policies for Yammer messages, make sure that your Yammer Enterprise network is in Native Mode.
  • Once your Yammer network is in Native Mode, go the Microsoft 365 Compliance Center and use the Information Governance solution to create a new retention policy for Yammer messages.

You may also want to update any training materials and communicate this change to your users or team responsible for Information Governance at your organization.
