MC260749: Microsoft Search: Find a meeting recording based on what was said

Affected Workloads

  • Microsoft Stream

When this will happen

  • Targeted release: We will begin rolling this out in mid-July (previously mid-June) and expect to complete rollout in late July (previously late June).
  • Standard release: We will begin rolling this out in late July (previously late June) and expect to complete rollout late September (previously early August).

How this will affect your organization

Previously, Teams meeting recordings were only searchable based on the Title of the meetings. You will now be easily able to find Teams meeting recordings based on not just the Title of the meeting, but also based on what was said in the meeting, via the transcript.

Note: Only the attendees of the Teams meeting will have the permission to view these recordings in the search results and playback the recordings. These meetings will now be discoverable in eDiscovery as well, via the transcript.

If you don’t want these meetings to be discoverable in Microsoft Search or eDiscovery via transcripts, you can turn off Teams transcription.

What you need to do to prepare

No preparation is needed from your end for this roll out. You can inform your users about these changes and update any training & documentation as appropriate.
