Keyword Research

This is the area where we identify the keywords that you want to aim to rank for. You can search the net for keyword tools and type in say “hotel breaks” this will tell you, depending on the tool, all of the searches per month and other suggestions for keywords. Usually the higher the searches per month, if you get to number one for that term you will get lots of traffic.
I tend to collect the top 20 to 25 keywords for a site. Other SEO’s may have other opinions on this.

On Page optimisation

This is the process of modifying individual pages, unique page Title normally with a keyword in maybe say “Hotel Breaks from Your Company”.
Unique meta description, making it very salesy. When a user sees this in the search results you want to make them come to your site from reading this.About 2-5 keywords in the meta descriptions. For the H1 tag I tend to use the primary keyword that the page is based around

Keyword density is also important, you need to make sure you include the keyword you are optimising for about 3 -5 times in every 100 words.

Also make sure your sites pages are W3c compliant by running them through this tool – http://validator.w3.org/

On Site optimisation

You need to make sure your site is navigatable. Make sure you can browse to all the pages without using Javascript or Flash menus because a Search engine spider cannot follow javascript or flash links. If you do not want to remove your javascript menu include some text links in the page footer to allow the spiders to navigate.

Include a sitemap making sure you do not have more than 100 links on a page.

Off site optimisation

Text based Link building from other sites, the links that that point into your site can gain you valuable traffic as well as the SEO gold, also known as PageRank.

You can get good value back links from www.textlinkads.com. This is where i buy most of mine from.

It is also important that the link is text and not an image. With a text link we can use a keyword as your link and point it to the page with that keyword. This will raise that pages importance for that keyword.

Submission to the big directories, DMOZ, Microsoft Small business Directory, Yahoo Directory, Best of the Web etc.
